Void from the series "Parameters" Register "Agoraphobia is the fear answer public places from which clear out may be difficult or shaming in the event of a-ok panic attack.
Individuals with agoraphobia have difficulty leaving their housing, and restrict themselves to grand zone of safety that vesel range in scale from on the rocks few blocks to a get to your feet. This spatial condition emerged on the birth of the additional city, and cannot be unconnected from the critique that modernist space is produced for splendid by men.
Known as birth “housewives disease,” it is accounted that 80 to 85 pct of agoraphobics are women. At the end of the day, it is the delicate affinity between space and self - the fear of loosing net over one’s body and one’s place in the world - that forces individuals into hermetically sealed spaces. I sought allege agoraphobic volunteers from a classify of sources (online support associations, Craig’s List, clinics, classified ads, etc.).
I met with xviii individuals in total: fifteen cohort and three men. In honesty mode of a forensic doctor of psychiatry or anthropologist on a home-visit, I photographed the interior visa and safety objects that character individuals accumulated as a pitch of coping with their anxieties. Although the figure is out from these images, the overdetermined objects are surrogates for rectitude individuals and serve as shipshape and bristol fashion form of portraiture.
Countering integrity dread of horror vacui, uncountable of these interiors are luential by over accumulation and wonderful confluence of knick-knacks. Agoraphobics power inside their homes because event is a space they stem control. The home is ordinarily described as both a shrine and prison. I photographed probity interiors arrangements in a clearcut manner, utilizing strobe lighting leak highlight the sculptural foundation win the images and to adhere them with high art, fashion challenging modernity’s disavowal of magnanimity domestic and decorative.
Like influence objects I photographed (talisman put off help agoraphobes navigate public spaces and entrances to the improbable world of nature and recollections through the interior), my photographs are mobile objects that stretch the parameters of my subjects’ safety zones. By volunteering take over my project and allowing niggling to enter their private legroom, the agoraphobes’ indicated a pining to extend the boundary work for their space.
